Case Study Summary
A sponsor experience that kept evolving with the event
Bonds Australia sponsors the photo booth experience at Minus18 Queer Formal, with Pixel Booth engaged to bring the activation to life across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. The objective was never simply to place a booth at the event. The experience needed to feel celebratory, visually distinctive and naturally connected to the atmosphere of Queer Formal.
For the first two years, Pixel Booth created custom-branded stretch media backdrops that gave each photo a polished campaign setting. When Bonds asked whether the activation could move in a different creative direction, we developed the Pride Balloon Wall—a large-format rainbow installation designed to become a destination within the event.
The wall became an instant hit and continues to anchor the activation today, supported by a branded booth start screen, LED lighting customised to display Pride colours throughout the event, custom Bonds and Minus18 photo strips, and Pride-themed props designed and 3D printed by Pixel Booth.
The Brief
Create a photo moment that felt part of Queer Formal—not added onto it
The activation needed to welcome friendship groups, photograph guests quickly and deliver a memorable printed keepsake, while maintaining a consistent experience across three cities and different venue environments.
Just as importantly, the sponsorship had to be visible without overpowering the people using the booth. Pixel Booth integrated Bonds and Minus18 branding through the start screen, print artwork, backdrop environment and custom props, while the booth’s programmable LED lighting was customised to display Pride colours throughout the event.
Multi-city consistency
Maintain a recognisable guest and brand experience across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.
A fresh creative idea
Respond to Bonds’ request for something different with a bold concept that could become an event feature.
Custom production
Bring the experience together with original backdrop concepts, branded screens, Pride-colour LED lighting, print artwork and in-house 3D props.
Creative Evolution
From branded stretch media to the Pride Balloon Wall
The strongest part of this case study is not simply that the activation has run for four years. It is that the creative has been reviewed, challenged and improved while keeping the experience familiar across each city.
Custom-branded stretch backdrops
The original setup used custom stretch media artwork to create a clean, campaign-aligned background for every photo while keeping sponsor visibility consistent.
Bonds asked for something different
Rather than making a small artwork change, Pixel Booth developed a new physical backdrop concept that would transform the booth area into a stronger event destination.
The Pride Balloon Wall became the feature
The rainbow installation became an immediate crowd favourite and remains at the centre of the Bonds-sponsored photo booth activation today.
